Aura boutique guitar Orville Les Paul Custom 1996 Japan Fuji Gen
Aura boutique guitar Orville Les Paul Custom 1996 Japan Fuji Gen

Try the fully refurbished Aura boutique guitar Orville Les Paul Custom 1996, made in Japan at the Fuji-Gen factory.

History of Orville and Orville by Gibson

In the 1980s, original (and more expensive) imported Gibson US guitars were sold in Japan alongside their licensed, cheaper Korean Epiphone copies. In 1988, Yamano Gakki, a Japanese Gibson dealer, decided to expand its offering with licensed Japanese instruments to fill the gap in the mid-range market. These guitars received the new brand name Orville, named after the legendary founder Orville Gibson.

In collaboration with Greco, Aria, Tokai, and other manufacturers, perfect licensed Japanese copies of Gibson were created. The factory where the guitar was made can be identified by the serial number. These models were manufactured for 10 years and are highly sought after today due to their exceptional quality and value.

About this specific model

Our guitar was manufactured at the Fuji-Gen factory in November 1996. It remains equipped with the original Japanese pickups (replicas of PAF humbuckers). This is a precise clone of the Les Paul Custom model. The original color is pure white, though over time the varnish has taken on a beautiful creamy patina.

The neck and lower part of the body are made of selected mahogany. The relief top is made of maple, and the fingerboard is made of rosewood.

Adjustments made to this guitar:

  • Fingerboard re-fretting
  • New zero fret compensated Earvana
  • New electronics, potentiometers, and Gotoh switch
  • Grounding of the electrical chamber under the copper sensor
  • Complete professional guitar setup
  • The guitar is fully functional and ready to play without further investment
  • Fingerboard: Rosewood
  • Neck: Mahogany
  • Weight: 4.5 kg
Price: €1550.00

History and origin of the Moraharpa

Moraharpa is the predecessor of the Nyckelharpa instrument. Nyckelharpa is a bit more complex, but our Moraharpa model also features resonant strings, delivering a rich sound.

Historically, a traditional Moraharpa usually has one melodic string and two drone strings without resonant strings.

Aura Moraharpa

The Aura Moraharpa has two melodic strings tuned to G and C, one drone string tuned to C, and 8 additional resonant strings.

The instrument is played with the help of a key mechanism equipped with 13 flaps. The lower string is controlled by all 13 flaps and the upper string by 7 flaps. This mechanism ensures more accurate playing, as it always presses the string in the exact same place.

History and origin of Kantele

Kantele is a traditional Finnish and Karelian stringed musical instrument, sometimes known as Kannel. Along with other instruments such as the Russian Gusle, Latvian Kokle and Lithuanian Kanklės, it is ranked among the Baltic psalteries.

Its age cannot be determined precisely, however, several scientists agree that the origin of the kantele may date back 1000-2000 years.

This musical instrument has a characteristic clear bell-like sound and has been strongly associated with the ancient art of runic singing. This sound easily pulls the listener into its calm keys, soothes the mind, and sounds very magical.

Original construction

Kantele's oldest instruments had five or six strings made of horsehair. The body of this instrument is hollow and made mainly of alder, pine or spruce.

Legends and epics

Legends describe the mythical origin of Kantele in the national epic of Kalevala, where the magician Väinämöinen makes the first instrument from the bones of a giant pike jaw and from several hairs of Hiisi's horse. The music this instrument creates attracts all forest creatures to wonder and admire the beauty of the tones.

The use of Kantele at present

Kantele is an instrument with which you can express a wide range of emotions and moods. It is widely used to play traditional folk music, waltzes, and polkas. Many artists also use it for a pleasant background sound in meditation.

An interesting feature is the use of Kantele in the well-known film Narnia (2005). Music composer Harry Gregson-Williams used the Kantele with the help of the Finnish artist Timo Väänänen to bring the atmosphere of an icy, snowy, and mysteriously calm landscape closer.
